Upgrade to FusionReactor 12.1.1 Now: Defect in FusionReactor 12.1.0 That Can Potentially Disable Metrics Shipper

On September 26th, 2024, we learned of a bug affecting some customers who upgraded to FusionReactor Agent version 12.1.0.

We want to provide a detailed account of the bug, its impact, and the steps we’ve taken to resolve it. Transparency and communication are central to our approach, and we want to ensure that all customers are informed and empowered to take the necessary action.

Bug Summary

The bug specifically affected the agent’s ability to send metrics data. Customers who upgraded to version 12.1.0 noticed that, in some cases, their servers were no longer listed as “online” within the FusionReactor Cloud interface. Furthermore, the agent did not capture any historical metrics during this period.

Core features such as log collection, trace shipping, and on-premise UI access remained fully operational. Therefore, customers could still monitor real-time data, logs, and traces and interact with the agent UI without any interruptions.

Root Cause

Our investigation revealed that the bug was related to a misconfiguration in the agent’s metric shipping system. In certain environments, the agent’s automatic labeling threw an exception, interrupting metrics transmission.

Once identified, our team immediately began work on a fix.

Resolution

We have developed and released FusionReactor Agent version 12.1.1. This update fully resolves the problem and restores metrics reporting functionality.

We recommend that all customers currently running version 12.1.0 upgrade to version 12.1.1 as soon as possible to avoid any further interruptions to their metrics data. The 12.1.1 release ensures that:

  • Metrics data will be collected and displayed correctly in FusionReactor Cloud.
  • Servers appear as ‘online’ on the servers page.
  • All historical metrics captured before upgrading to 12.1.0 will remain unaffected.

The latest version is available for download at FusionReactor 12.1.1 Download.

Conclusion

We take FusionReactor’s reliability very seriously and strive to minimize user disruptions. While this bug was unfortunate, we are grateful for our customers’ patience and are committed to ensuring the highest standards moving forward.

If you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us. We value your trust and are here to support you.

Thank you for being a valued member of the FusionReactor community.
